We had a very busy week in grade 1/2! Students worked hard to research a community helper and complete a writing piece about what they learned. We also had their last session of curling in the gym to get prepared for our field trip next week - we have some very skills curlers in our classes! Winter Olympics 2030 may have some familiar faces. 😉
This weekend please take some time to read with your child every day. Ask questions before, during, and after you read to see what your child knows or understands. Some examples of comprehension questions are:
- What do you think this book will be about? Why?
- What do you know about the topic of this book?
- What do you think will happen next in the story? Why?
- How is the character feeling? How do you know?
- What was the problem in the story?
- Can you retell the story using your own words?
Remind your child that reading is about more than just sounding out words! As always, we appreciate your ongoing support at home.
Have a fabulous weekend!
