Spelling Quiz Tomorrow
Students have been practicing their new spelling (word work) words all week. Tomorrow they will be asked to write them out so that we can see how effective the word work tasks have been. This will help us determine what words students will practice next week - this quiz is not intended to be a stressful event and will not be used as a final assessment of your child's writing ability.

Our Community
Last week students learned about the important landmarks around CJP and created a map of where each landmark is. This week we have been learning about the different community helpers that we can find at these important places!
Please take some time to ask your child who some important people are in our community. Have your child write down a community helper that they would like to learn more about and bring it to school tomorrow to hand in.
Thank you for your on-going support at home!

New Spelling Groups
Today students were given a new list of spelling words to practice every day for the week. Your child's daily message will let you know which group he or she is part of. This week's words are:
Red Group: I, a, at, to, me
Blue Group: has, had, are, look, did, said
Green Group: what, when, where, how, who, why
Yellow Group: can't, didn't, don't, won't, that's, they're, it's
You may notice some of these words are review from previous weeks - this is to provide your child some extra practice on these words as we have noticed many students are not yet applying their learning to their independent writing.
Thank you for your support!

Grade 2 Math
Dear Parents of Grade 2s!
Students completed a brief check-in quiz last week that covered 7 key concepts we have covered this term: Representing numbers in word form, tallies, base ten squares, counting by 5s from various starting points, odd and even numbers, adding two-digit numbers and word problems.
Please look for this quiz tomorrow after school. Once you have reviewed it, please sign it and return it so students can store it in their duotang to refer to. Most students need to work on showing their steps and how they came to an answer. It is important to show their understanding and not just the answer! We will go over this on Monday.
Thanks for your support!
